Hockey Canada, World Junior Host Committee to Hold Used Equipment Drive in Support of Sport Central
Hockey Canada and the 2012 IIHF World Junior Championship host committee is happy to announce that they will be hosting a used equipment drive in support of Sport Central at the Red-White game on Saturday, August 6, part of Canada’s National Junior Team Sport Chek Summer Development Camp.
Everyone attending the Red-White game is encouraged to bring any gently used sports equipment to Rexall Place, where donation boxes will be set up at the main entrances. Everyone who donates a used item will be entered to win a 2012 IIHF World Junior Championship/Hockey Canada prize package. Each item donated will go to The Brick Sport Central as it continues to help kids participate in sports with donated equipment.
“We could not be more excited to partner with The Brick Sport Central for this equipment drive,” said Al Coates, executive director of the 2012 IIHF World Junior Championship. “Any opportunity to get more young Canadians involved in our nation’s game is one that we should not take for granted, and we thank The Brick Sport Central for their efforts in helping our game grow.”
More than 100,000 kids have had the chance to participate in sports thanks to the hard work of the volunteers at The Brick Sport Central. Celebrating its 20th anniversary, the non-profit organization is appreciative of the continued support of donors and is happy to see Hockey Canada and the 2012 IIHF World Junior Championship take a proactive step to support its cause.
“For the past 20 years The Brick Sport Central has been proud to be a part of the Edmonton sports community,” said Andy Wigston, president of The Brick Sport Central. “We are honoured and grateful to Hockey Canada for letting us be part of this prestigious event and for their assistance in helping more kids play the great game of hockey.”
Tickets are still available for the Red-White game at Canada’s National Junior Team Sport Chek Summer Development Camp. Tickets for the game – scheduled for 7 p.m. on August 6 – can be purchased for $14 at participating Safeway locations and Sport Chek in and around Edmonton.
