Why They’re No. 2

Like so many top teams across the country, it’s the defence that has carried the Hurricanes this season. With just 103 goals against in 46 games Newmarket sits first in that category in the OJHL, 13 ahead of second-place Burlington. Not surprisingly, those two teams sport the best records in the league, with Newmarket’s 78 points good for first place, two points up on the Cougars – who come in at No. 10 in this week’s CJHL Top 20. The offence has spread itself out for the Hurricanes; six different players have at least 50 points, led by Kevin Galas’ 58, which leaves him tied for 29th in OJHL scoring.
