The City of Summerside hosted its annual Greater Summerside Chamber of Commerce business mixer at the newly-constructed Red Shores at Summerside Raceway on Oct. 8 with ‘Summerside Welcomes the World’ as the event’s theme, surrounding the upcoming 2009 World Junior A Challenge in the city.

With over 120 members of the business community in attendance the host committee of the 2009 World Junior A Challenge launched a special local business package to enhance the business communities involvement in the event. The local business package is the ‘World Hockey with the Works!’ package, and is themed and packaged in a pizza box.

The host committee has partnered with the Summerside Boys and Girls Club, with 10 tickets donated to the SBGC on behalf of the purchasing business from each package sold. The packages, which are well over $500 in value, also include t-shirts, noise makers, food vouchers, flex ticket packs, posters, window decals and more.

Each local business is encouraged to decorate their storefronts to show their support for the 2009 World Junior A Challenge, which opens Nov. 1 at Credit Union Place. Since the mixer, the host committee has sold close to 30 packages and expects this number to grow as the word spreads. The Summerside Boys and Girls Club would like to thank the following local businesses for supporting this initiative (it should be noted that some businesses purchased more than one package):

  • Summerside Journal Pioneer
  • Revolution Media
  • Colours Sings and Print
  • Marks Work Warehouse
  • Consolidated Credit Union
  • Quality Inn
  • Loyalist Country Inn
  • New Cap Radio (KROCK/OCEAN)
  • Century 21
  • EMC
  • Island Chemicals
  • Gerard Greenan’s Office – Minister of Education
  • Abel Pest Control
  • HMS Office Supplies
  • Greco/Captain Sub
  • Fiveelevenwest Restaurant/Buffet
  • Fixed Air
