CALGARY, Alta. – Canada’s National Women’s Team departs for Europe this week for the 2009 4 Nations Cup, which will be held in Veriumaki, Finland from November 3-7. To date, Canada has a 6-2 record against international competition in 2009-10, including two consecutive wins over the USA and a silver medal at the Hockey Canada Cup in September 2009.

Canada’s players and staff will depart for Frankfurt, Germany on Wednesday, October 28 (flight AC9200 at 14:30 from Calgary International Airport) en route to Stockholm, Sweden. All 26 players on Canada’s centralized roster will make the trip to the 4 Nations Cup.

The 4 Nations Cup, dating back to 1996, brings together the top women’s hockey teams in the world on an annual basis – Canada, Finland, Sweden and the United States.

Canada will spend four days in Stockholm for a pre-competition camp. On Sunday, November 1, Canada’s National Women’s Team will face Sweden in exhibition action in Hovet, Sweden. On Monday, November 2, Canada heads to Vierumaki, Finland for the 4 Nations Cup, with its first game of the event scheduled for the following day against Sweden.

In preparation for the 2010 Olympic Winter Games, Canada is facing teams from the Alberta Midget AAA Boys Hockey League this season as well, where it currently has a 10-2 record.

“Our players have been involved in a number of close games against strong competition this season,” says Melody Davidson, head coach of Canada’s National Women’s Team. “I’m excited that our team is making great strides and we look forward to facing international opponents and measuring our progress against them at the 4 Nations Cup.”

Note to media: Chris Jurewicz, Hockey Canada’s coordinator of communications, will be with Canada’s National Women’s Team at the 4 Nations Cup. All interview requests should be directed to Chris at [email protected].
