CALGARY, AB – Canada’s 28th National Midget Hockey Championship will be held in Prince Edward Island’s historic capital, Charlottetown. From April 24th to 30th, the Charlottetown Islanders will host the Calgary Buffaloes, the Prince Albert Mintos, the Toronto Jr. Canadians, the Patriotes de Châteauguay and the St. John’s Maple Leafs as they compete for the coveted 2006 TELUS Cup.

"Based on the high level of community and media support already present, we can tell that Island hockey fans are really looking forward to hosting this year’s TELUS Cup,” says the Chairman of the Host Committee Wayne MacDougall. "Charlottetown has always been known as a great hockey town and hosting the 2006 TELUS Cup will prove it to the many local fans and the fans from across Canada that will travel here to partake in the excitement.”

During the 19 game Championship that will take place at the Charlottetown Civic Centre, athletes will not only be competing for the TELUS Cup but also raising funds for local hockey organizations. For each goal scored during the tournament, TELUS will donate $50 to Charlottetown Minor Hockey and to Hockey PEI. This program will encourage teams to give it their all while giving back to the community.

"At TELUS, we are committed to the long-term development of Canada’s athletes,” says Steve Podborski, Executive Director, Sport at TELUS. “In addition to the donations program we have created, TELUS will also reward the most valuable player with a $1,000 scholarship. TELUS is honoured to be supporting Canada’s National Midget Hockey Championship and wishes each team competing for the 2006 TELUS Cup the very best of luck.”

The Gold medal game will take place on Sunday, April 30th at 1:00 pm AT/12:00 pm ET and will be broadcast live on TSN/RDS, Hockey Canada’s official broadcaster.
