Legendary Junior Hockey Coach Bert Templeton Passes Away at Age of 63
Former National Junior Team coach and legendary junior coach Bert Templeton passed away in Sudbury, ON after a long battle with kidney cancer.
Templeton coached the Hamilton Fincups to a Memorial Cup title in 1976 and also to a silver medal in 1977 at the World Junior Hockey Championship in the days before Canada sent a national team. He was Canada’s National Junior Team at the 1987 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship.
Templeton also claimed an OHL title in 1994, with the North Bay Centennials.
The native of Irvine, Scotland, was named the Canadian Hockey League's coach of the year in 1994 and the executive of the year in 1992. He was also the OHL's coach of the year in 19 and executive of the year in 19.
His OHL career junior coaching record was 907-678-148 over 26 years.
