CALGARY, ALBERTA -Canada's National Women's Team Head Coach Karen Hughes announced Canada's 24-player roster for the upcoming 4 Nations Cup, from November 6-10, 2002 in Kitchener, ON.

"The coaches and the players are looking forward to this competition," said Hughes. "It will be a great opportunity to see where we are at as a team and how our younger players measure up against a top international field."

No players have been either cut or released from the National Women's Team program with this roster announcement. Canada's 4 Nations Cup roster is not the final World Championship roster.

The 4 Nations Cup roster includes 16 members of Canada's 2002 Olympic team that won a gold medal in Salt Lake City as well as eight players (Gillian Apps, Cathy Chartrand, Gina Kingsbury, Charline Labonté, Carla MacLeod, Lara Perks, Cherie Piper, Meagan Walton) from the National Under 22 Team that won a three-game series (2-0-1) against the US National Under 22 Team in August 2002.

The coaching staff, comprised of Hughes, associate coach Mike Pelino and assistant coach Ken Dufton, along with the CHA's Head Scout Wally Kozak will monitor player performances at the Four Nations Cup. The National Women's Team staff will also continue to monitor all the players that attended the October Development Camp and other top women's hockey players during the 2002-2003 season.

The National Women's Team will be holding a second Development camp in January 2003, prior to naming Canada's 2003 IIHF World Women's Hockey Championship roster in February 2003.

Hughes also announced that defenceman and Olympic gold medallist Isabelle Chartrand has decided to take the year off from the National Program for personal reasons.

Canada is confirmed to play in two international women's hockey events in 2002-2003: the 2002 4 Nations Cup (Canada, Finland, Sweden and USA) in Kitchener, ON from November 6-10, 2002 and the 2003 IIHF World Hockey Championship in Beijing, China from April 2-8, 2003. Canada's first game at the 4 Nations Cup will be on Wednesday, November 6 at 7:30pm in Kitchener, ON (ticket information: 1-800-265-6368/519-745-0303).
