CALGARY, ALBERTA - The Canadian Hockey Association announced on Friday that Blair Mackasey has been named head scout for the organization. Mackasey replaces Barry Trapp, who left the CHA to join the Toronto Maple Leafs as Director of Amateur Scouting.

Mackasey will be responsible for all player evaluation and player selections for National Junior Team Development and Selection Camps as well as the Canada's Men's Under 18 Team. Mackasey will travel coast to coast in Canada and the USA, scouting the CHL and leagues with junior aged players, searching for potential players that will represent Canada on the international stage. He also is a NCCP Advanced 2 certified coach.

For the past six seasons, Mackasey has been a member of the Phoenix Coyotes' scouting staff, based out of Quebec.

Mackasey, a native of Beaconsfield, QC was an assistant coach in the CHA's High Performance Program, winning a gold medal with the National Junior Team in 1996 and a gold medal with the National Under 18 Team in 1994. He also coached Quebec's Under 17 team to a silver medal victory at the 1992 World Under 17 Hockey Challenge.

"The Canadian Hockey Association is the benchmark against which all other programs are measured on a worldwide basis," said Mackasey. "I am thrilled to be joining the organization and to be involved with the Program of Excellence once again."

Mackasey, who is bilingual, was a head coach in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League, with the Drummondville Voltigeurs (1994-1996) and with the Granby Bisons (1993-1994).

"We're excited about the addition of Blair to the Canadian Hockey family," said Bob Nicholson, the CHA's president. "Blair brings a great deal of scouting experience to the position, as well as experience with the Program of Excellence as a coach."

Over the next few months, Mackasey will assist with the preparations for Canada's National Under 18 Summer Camp and Event, as well as the Canada's National Junior Team Development Camp. MacKasey will attend the National Junior Team Development Camp in Halifax, NS from August 10-20, 2002. Details regarding the National Junior Team and National Under 18 Team camps will be announced in the next few weeks.

Blair and his wife Debbie reside in Beaconsfield, QC with their four children, Andrea, Blair Jr., Erin and Dave.
