Cassie Campbell named Captain; Vicky Sunohara and Hayley Wickenheiser named Assistant Captains

OTTAWA, ON - Canada's National Women's Team named Cassie Campbell the team's captain for the balance of 2001-2002 season, including the 2002 Winter Olympic Games. Vicky Sunohara and Hayley Wickenheiser were also named the assistant captains as Head Coach Danièle Sauvageau informed the team prior to Canada's first TSN Challenge game against the U.S. in Ottawa, ON.

Campbell, 28, is a veteran of Canada's National Women's Team, having joined the program in 1994 as part of the gold medal winning World Championship Team. The native of Brampton, ON recently became the second player ever to reach 100 games played with Canada's National Women's Team (Geraldine Heaney was the first to play 1000 games). Campbell, a forward, has won five World Championships and has been an assistant captain with Canada since the 1997-1998 season, including the 1998 Winter Olympic Games in Nagano, Japan.

Sunohara, 31, was a member of Canada's first ever World Championship Team in 1990. The native of Scarborough, ON has played in five World Championships, capturing gold medals each time. Sunohara was also of member of Canada's silver medal winning team at the 2002 Winter Olympics Games.

Wickenheiser, 22, joined the National Women's Team at the 1994 World Women's Hockey Championship as 15 year old, and captured gold. The native of Shaunavan, SK is the all-time leading scorer with Canada's National Women's Team and won has four World Championships and one Olympic silver medal.
