Forty-four of Canada's top junior hockey players invited to Canada's National Junior Team's Development Camp August 1-10, 2001 in Calgary, AB

CALGARY, ALBERTA -Forty-four of Canada's top junior hockey players have been invited to Canada's National Junior Team's Development Camp in August, 2001, the Canadian Hockey Association and the Canadian Hockey League announced on Tuesday.

The 2002 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship will be held from December 25, 2001 through January 4, 2002 in the Czech Republic.

The 44 players were selected by the CHA's Director of Scouting, Barry Trapp in collaboration with three regional scouts, Jim Currie (West), Jim Cassidy (Ontario), Serge Aubry (Quebec, Maritimes) who saw over 300 hockey games last season in every area of Canada, evaluating players for the National Junior Team Program as well as the National Under 18 Program.

The camp roster includes ten players that claimed bronze medals with Canada's National Junior Team at the 2001 World Junior Hockey Championship in Russia, including five defencemen: Jay Bouwmeester, MH (WHL), Dan Hamhuis, PG (WHL), Jay Harrison, BRA (OHL), Mark Popovic, StM (OHL), Nick Schultz (WHL), and five forwards: Brad Boyes, ERIE (OHL), Mike Cammalleri, MICH (CCHA), Steve Ott, WND (OHL), Jason Spezza, WND (OHL), Jarret Stoll, KOO (WHL).

The National Junior Team Development Camp roster also includes:

- 7 members of the 2000 National Under 18 Team which won gold at the 2000 Under 18 Four Nations Tournament in the Czech Republic: Blackburn, B. Bell, Milroy, Paetsch, Roy, Upshall, Weiss, Woywitk

- 9 members of the 1999 National Under 18 Team which also won gold at the 1999 Under 18 Four Nations Tournament in the Czech Republic: Aulin, Boyes, Cammalleri, Harrison, Leclaire, Popovic, Schultz, Stoll, Vermette

- 16 players have been drafted by NHL teams: Aulin (LA)*, T. Bell (VAN), Bendera (CBJ), Boyes (TOR), Cole (NJ), Flache (EDM), Krahn (CAL), Lehoux (LA), Lombardi (EDM), Ott (DAL), Ouellet (PIT), Schultz (MIN), Smith (VAN), Stoll (CAL), Sutherby (WAS), Vermette (OTT)

*Aulin was originally drafted by Colorado but his rights to transferred to Los Angeles during the 2000-2001 season.

- 26 players eligible for this month's 2001 NHL Entry Draft in Florida

- 2 players eligible for the 2002 NHL Entry Draft

The team will get together from August 1-10 for a nine -day development camp in Calgary, AB with Head Coach Stan Butler of the OHL's Brampton Battalion and assistants Mike Kelly of the OHL's North Bay Centennials and Marc Habscheid of the WHL's Kelowna Rockets.
