Team Canada adds forward Kirk Muller to Roster

HANNOVER, GERMANY - Assistant Executive Director Lanny McDonald and the coaching staff announced on Wednesday that forward Kirk Muller of the Dallas Stars has been added to Team Canada for the final round of the 2001 IIHF World Hockey Championship in Germany.

Muller, 35, has just completed his 17th season in the NHL, 2nd with Dallas. The native of Kingston, ON will be taking part in his fifth World Championship. In his career, Muller has played in 37 games with Canada at the World Championship. Only two other players (Kevin Dineen, Marcel Dionne) have represented Canada as many times in World Championship play since 1978. Muller also stands as Canada’s 10th top scorer all-time at the World Championship since 1978.

Muller is scheduled to arrive in Germany on Thursday, May 9th. With the addition of Muller, Canada will have 24 players in Germany (3 goaltenders, 21 skaters) entering into the final round.

Meanwhile, forward Joe Thornton, of the Boston Bruins, is out for the remainder of the World Championship with a concussion. Thornton was injured in Canada’s game on Tuesday, May 7th against the Czech Republic when he collided with teammate Scott Walker.
