CALGARY, AB - Assistant Executive Director Lanny McDonald and Director of Player Personnel Steve Tambellini announced that goaltender Dan Cloutier of the Vancouver Canucks has been added to Team Canada for the 2001 IIHF World Hockey Championship. Cloutier was added after Roberto Luongo was injured in Canada's 6-2 victory over Switzerland on Friday, May 4th.

Luongo, who fractured his finger after taking a shot in the hand, will be out for the remainder of the Championship and will be returning home to Florida on Saturday.

Cloutier, 25, joined the Canucks this season in a trade with the Tampa Bay Lightning. The native of Mont-Laurier, QC, will be taking part in his 1st World Championship. Cloutier won a gold medal with Canada's National Junior Team at the 1995 World Junior Hockey Championship in Red Deer, AB.

“It’s unfortunate that Roberto couldn’t remain with the team in this quest for gold,” said McDonald. "We are excited to be able to add a great young goaltender who jumped at the chance to join our team in Germany. Dan will fit in very well with the team and will be great for team chemistry."

The addition of Cloutier gives Canada three goaltenders: Fred Brathwaite, of Ottawa, ON, Jean-Sébastien Giguère, of Montreal, QC and Cloutier.
