41 Hopefuls to Meet at Father Bauer Olympic Arena in Calgary for Canada's National Junior Team's Evaluation Camp August 3-10

CALGARY, ALBERTA - Canada's National Junior Team will run it's Evaluation camp from August 3-10, 2000 at the Father David Bauer Olympic Arena in Calgary, AB, the Canadian Hockey Association and the Canadian Hockey League confirmed Monday.

Forty-one players will attend this year's camp and will be trying to impress the coaching staff with the ultimate goal of representing Canada at the 2001 World Junior Hockey Championship. Head coach Stan Butler, of the Brampton Battalion (OHL), and assistant coaches Kevin Dickie, of the University of Acadia Axemen (CIAU), and Mike Kelly, of the North Bay Centennials (OHL), will run practices and coach intra-squad games during the camp.

The players were selected by Barry Trapp, Director of Scouting, for the Canadian Hockey Association. Following the one-week camp, Trapp will continue to evaluate the play of these and other players during the 2000- 2001 hockey season and invite 32 players to the National Junior Team selection camp December 13-18, 2000 prior to the World Junior Hockey Championship in Russia from December 26, 2000 to January 5, 2001.

Canada has won the World Junior Championship a record 10 times in the history of the tournament, including seven in the last eleven years. Team Canada won an unprecedented five straight World Junior titles from 1993-97, won the silver medal in 1999 and a bronze medal in 2000.
