Minor Hockey Associations From Across Canada Receive Donations From Canadian Hockey League Players Who Starred With Canada's 1998 National Under 18 Team

CALGARY, AB - A total of $30,000 has been donated to 19 minor hockey associations across Canada of behalf of 15 Canadian Hockey League (CHL) players, all of whom were members of Canada's National Under 18 Team in 1998, the Canadian Hockey Association and the Canadian Hockey League announced Monday.

These players are all quality individuals who definitely care about the grass roots development of future players through the Canadian minor hockey and Canadian Hockey League systems, A said Dave Branch, President, Canadian Hockey League.

Twenty-two players from the CHL were members of Canada's National Under 18 team's gold medal performance in the summer of 1998 in the Czech Republic. Fifteen of the players were chosen to participate in The Upper Deck, LLC card company's inaugural Authentic Collection of player trading cards by each personally autographing 1,500 cards. The Upper Deck Company, LLC contributed $2,000 to ensure each player's participation, which the player then donated to a minor hockey association of his choice.

This 1999 trading card set from The Upper Deck Company, LLC, with members of Canada's Under 18, team was included randomly with similar cards of the NHL's premier players, and is available in stores which carry Upper Deck trading card products.

A These donations to 19 minor hockey associations across Canada will benefit local development programs that will assist with ensuring that minor hockey players are learning the proper skills and are having fun playing the game," said Bob Nicholson, President, Canadian Hockey Association. "It is a credit to the CHL players and our high performance program, to take the initiative to remember their minor hockey roots."

The Upper Deck Company, LLC, is the official trading card licensee of the Canadian Hockey Association, which continues to provide support through projects such as the SP Authentic Collection, which contributes to the success of grass roots and high performance programming.
