CALGARY -- Brad Bergen scored with two minutes remaining in the game to break a 2-2 tie and lift the German National Team to a 3-2 victory over Canada's Men's National Team in Memmingen, Germany on Wednesday.

The game was a tune-up for Team Canada which will compete against Germany, Slovakia and Switzerland in the Deutschland Cup tournament this weekend in Fussen, Germany.

Chris Szysky of White City, SK and Evan Marble of Eston, SK scored for Canada, while Lars Bruggmann scored the other two goals for Germany. Canada was trailing 2-0 entering the final period, but battled back to tie as Szysky finished a three-way play involving Shane Johnson and Craig McDonald Marble tied the game at 15:21 of the final period on a setup by team captain Pat Conacher, of Calgary, but the club couldn't put the winner pas German goaltender Joseph Heib, who faced 20 shots in the game.

The Deutschland Cup, an important tournament on the European hockey calendar, is a straight round-robin affair. Canada opens the tournament on Friday against Switzerland, plays Slovakia on Saturday and the host German National Team on Sunday.
