SUDBURY (Ontario) - Andrew McKim of Saint John, New Brunswick scored the winning goal for Canada's national hockey team at 12:47 of the second period en route to a 5-2 win over Russia tonight before 5,062 spectators at the Sudbury Arena.

Tonight's game was the first of a four-game tour of Northern Ontario and Quebec. The teams resume play on Thursday, April 4 in Timmins, travel to Kirkland Lake for a game on Saturday, April 6, and then wrap-up their season in Rouyn-Noranda, Quebec, Sunday, April 7.

Canada jumped to a 4-0 lead after 40 minutes on a goal by Ryan Johnson of Thunder Bay, Ontario, in the opening period, and second period markers by David Matsos of Burlington, Ontario, Andrew McKim, and Mike Bodnarchuk of Bramalea, Ontario.

Russia mounted a third period comeback, scoring twice by the 7:34 mark, but Dale McTavish of Eganville, Ontario, capped off Canada's win 23 seconds later for the 5-2 victory

Andrew Verner of Weston, Ontario, earned the win in goals for Canada.
