Game Story

ONTARIO BLUE IMPROVES TO 2-0 WITH 4-1 WIN OVER ATLANTIC

Day 2 of the 2017 National Women’s Under-18 Championship began with a match-up between Ontario Blue and Atlantic, both of whom won their opening-day games.

Nicole Kelly (Brantford, Ont./Etobicoke, PWHL) scored one goal and added an assist, while Darcie Lappan (Hartington, Ont./Kingston, PWHL) earned two assists, to lead Ontario Blue’s offence in the 4-1 win.

Malory Dominico (North Bay, Ont./Barrie, PWHL) opened the scoring with an unassisted goal at 9:19, using her speed to chase down the puck deep into Atlantic’s end and beat netminder Shaylin McFarlane (Miramichi, N.B./Rothesay Netherwood School, CAHS). Talli Warren (Mundleville, N.B./Selects Hockey Academy, USHS) leveraged a Team Atlantic power play to tie things up at 17:50, picking up the rebound to beat Ontario Blue’s Madison Oakes (Richmond Hill, Ont./Oakville, PWHL).

Kelly scored with just over a minute to go in the first period and Ontario Blue took a 2-1 lead into the first intermission. Alexa Hoskin (Belleville, Ont./Kingston, PWHL) scored in the second period, and Leah Herrfort (Palmerston, Ont./Cambridge, PWHL) potted her second of the tournament with a late third-period goal to round out the scoring.
