OTTAWA – The host organizing committee for the 2009 International Ice Hockey Federation World Junior Championship announced today that ticket packages for the event will go on sale to the public beginning at noon ET.

Beginning Friday, Dec. 8 at noon, ticket packages for the 2009 IIHF world juniors can be purchased at www.capitaltickets.ca, by calling 613-599-FANS (3267) or at the Ottawa Senators’ box office. Tickets are available in 31- or 17-game packages only at this time – no single game tickets are available at this time.

Thirty-one-game ticket packages start at $27.42 per seat per game and require only a $100 seat deposit. The balance can be paid in three installments: on , and .

Close to 40 per cent of tickets have already been sold for the 2009 event in Ottawa, with still more than two years to go until the first puck drops.

Season-ticket holders of the National Hockey League’s Ottawa Senators and Ontario Hockey League’s Ottawa 67’s have snatched up more than 155,000 tickets, well on the way to the host committee’s goal of 397,070 tickets sold for the tournament. Fewer than 1,000 Gold Packages are still available in the 100 level at the Home of the Ottawa Senators.

"Ticket sales to season-ticket holders of the Ottawa Senators and 67’s have been strong because fans in Hockey Country recognize that hosting the world juniors is a once-in-a-lifetime event,” said Cyril Leeder, vice-chair of the host committee.

Senators and 67’s season-ticket holders still have the opportunity to purchase tickets for the championship by calling 613-599-FANS (3267).

The 2009 IIHF World Junior Championship, which will be held from Dec.26, 2008 to Jan., will feature 17 games played at the home of the Ottawa Senators, and 14 games played at the Ottawa Civic Centre, home of the Ottawa 67s.

The event schedule will not be announced until January, 2008.

The Ottawa Host Organizing Committee unveiled the logo for the 2009 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship on Monday.

Developed by Acart Communications of Ottawa in conjunction with the host committee, the logo design emphasizes Canada with the predominant red colour and stylized maple leaf, and also incorporates the colour gold, signifying the gold medal that every world junior participant and team strives for.
