Final roster for Canada's National Junior team named for 2002 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship

NORTH YORK, ON - The final roster for Canada's National Junior Team was named for the 2002 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship from December 25, 2001 to January 4, 2002, Head Coach Stan Butler announced on Saturday morning.

The roster includes 21 players from the Canadian Hockey League. The breakdown is as follows: 10 players from the Western Hockey League, 9 players from the Ontario Hockey League, 2 players from the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League and 1 player from the US College ranks.

Ten players (Bouwmeester, Boyes, Cammalleri, Hamhuis, Harrison, Ott, Popovic, Schultz, Spezza, Stoll) are returning players, having captured a bronze medal at the 2001 World Junior Hockey Championship. Bouwmeester and Spezza also won bronze at the 2000 World Junior Hockey Championship. Thirteen of the twenty-two players also have international experience from playing with Canada's National Under 18 Team.

Head coach Stan Butler also announced that forward Jarret Stoll, of Yorkton, SK will be the captain, while defenceman Nick Schultz, of Strasbourg, SK and forward Mike Cammalleri, of Richmond Hill, ON will be assistant captains. All three were part of Canada's bronze medal winning team at the 2002 World Junior Hockey Championship.

The 2002 World Junior Hockey Championship will be held in the Czech Republic from December 25, 2001 - January 4, 2002.

The team will continue training at the Beatrice Ice Gardens through Monday, December 17th before flying to the Czech Republic where they will exhibition games on December 20th (Liberec, Czech Division I Team) and December 22nd (Finland), before opening the World Junior Hockey Championship on December 25th against France. Team Canada will be leaving on Air Canada flight 858 to London, England, leaving Toronto's Pearson Airport on Monday, December 17th at 11:55 pm (Eastern).
