Canada's National Men's Team Beats Davos 5-2 to Claim Fourth Straight Spengler Cup Title

DAVOS, SWITZERLAND -- Canada's National Men's Team beat host club Davos 5-2 on Thursday, to win Spengler Cup tournament for fourth consecutive year. Canada finished the tournament with a 4-1-0 record against European Elite Club teams.

Team Canada has now set a record in the 77 year history of the Spengler Cup being the first team ever to collect four consecutive wins. Team Canada will bring home the Spengler Cup trophy home to stay.

Team Canada came out strong in the first period with goals scored by Doug Lidster, Shawn Heaphy and Marty Murray. Davos put some threat into the game during the second period when Reto Von Arx scored twice, Dan Marois then scored with 9 seconds left of the second period to bring Canada's lead to 4-2. Mario Doyon scored Canada's final goal in the third period."Overall it was a good tour," said Wil Desjardins, Assistant Coach of the National Team. "We competed hard in the Baltic Cup without a win and were rewarded tonight by winning the Spengler Cup." "The guys won the tournament for many different reasons, but worked together as a team to earn this."

Player of the game for the final game was former NHL player and now player assistant coach of the National Team, Doug Lidster. Fred Brathwaite was named top Goaltender facing 35 shots in the final game.

Canadians named to the Spengler Cup all star team included Fred Brathwaite, Jean Yves-Roy and Dan Hodgson.
