CALGARY, AB -- Canada's National Junior team announced Friday that forwards Eric Chouinard from the Quebec Remparts of the QMJHL, Kyle Calder of the Western Hockey League's Regina Pats, and Jason Ward of the Windsor Spitfires of the OHL have been added to the selection camp roster, while forward Alex Tanguay of the QMJHL's Halifax Mooseheads has been dropped due to medical concerns.

Tanguay of Ste-Justine, QC, will not be attending the camp based on medical advice stating that he would be at risk to be involved in contact situations at this time. Tanguay has not played in any QMJHL games since Oct. 18, after suffering a concussion. Tanguay was a a member of the 1998 National Junior Team and was a first round pick of the Colorado Avalanche in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft (1st pick, 12th overall)

Chouinard of Cap-Rouge, QC, was a member of the 1997 National Under 18 team that won a tri-nation tournament in the Czech Republic, and was a first round pick of the Montreal Canadiens in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft (1st pick, 16th overall).

Calder, of Mannville, AB, currently leads the Western Hockey League in scoring with 49 points in 33 games and was WHL Player of the Month in November 1998. Calder was a 5th round pick of the Chicago Blackhawks (7th pick, 130th overall) in the 1997 NHL Entry Draft

Ward, of Oshawa, ON, was a member of last year's National Junior Team that competed at the 1998 World Junior Championship in Helsinki and was a first round pick of the Montreal Canadiens (1st pick, 11th overall) in the 1997 Entry Draft.

The changes to the selection camp roster bring the number of players attending the camp to 34, with 4 goaltenders, 10 defensemen and 20 forwards.

Team Canada's selection camp will be held at the Max Bell Arena in Winnipeg from Dec. 13-18. On Dec. 18, the final 22-player roster will move to Kenora, ON, for a pre-competition camp from Dec. 19-24. Canada's first game in the championship will be in Brandon, MB versus Slovakia, on Dec. 27 starting at 3:30pm (CST).
