DRAYTON VALLEY, AB. -- Wade Fenning, a college call-up, scored a pair of goals to pace
Canada's National Team to a 7-0 victory over the Japanese Olympic Team on Friday night in the second of a
six-game series between the two teams.
Fenning, a left winger, and Keith Randall, a defenceman, regulars with the Northern Alberta
Institute of Technology varsity team, were invited to play with Team Canada and obviously made the most of
the opportunity.
Fenning was the scoring beneficiary of some fine set-up work by Team Canada regulars Ron
Pasco and Xavier Majic, who helped set up both of Fenning's goals. The line was buzzing all game long.
Pasco, of Gloucester, Ont., was named the player-of-the-game for Canada, while feisty
Tsutsumi Otomo was the top player for the Japanese, who are managed by former Canadian National and Olympic
team coach Dave King. Canada won the first game in the series, 5-1 on Wednesday night in Banff.
Jimmy Roy, who opened the scoring at 13:00 of the first period, George Zajankala, Jason
Young, Mike Stewart and Brad Chartrand also scored for Canada. Dean Evason, Canada's top pointgetter this
season, upped his total to 43 points in 33 games (18 goals, 25 assists) by setting up a pair of goals. Steve
Junker also had two assists.
Tonight (Saturday), the two teams meet for the third game in the series, at Father David
Bauer Arena in Calgary, the official home of the full-time National Men's Team and all the other national
teams, including the National Women's and National Junior teams.
The game will be preceded by a coaching clinic featuring national team coaches Andy Murray
and Mike Johnston, as well as guest coach Brent Devost, head coach of the Calgary North Stars of the Alberta
Triple-A Midget League.
There will also be a Toonie-toss during the first intermission of Saturday night's game in
which fans fling toonie-filled envelopes at targets on the ice. Those closest to the targets have a chance to
win Canadian Hockey merchandise as prizes. The toonie-toss will be a cross-Canada feature during Royal Bank
Canadian Hockey Week at junior hockey games
