BURNABY, B.C. – The Fraser Valley Phantom of the BC Hockey Female Midget AAA League are simply pumped to host the 2013 Esso Cup in Burnaby, B.C.

The team showed its excitement recently by presenting official event hats to board members of the PCAHA (Pacific Coast Amateur Hockey Association), the governing body for minor hockey in the lower mainland district of BC Hockey, including the area from Hope to the Sunshine Coast.

The PCAHA's membership consists of 42 minor hockey associations and two above-minor leagues, including about 19,700 male and female players between ages five and 20 years old, in addition to 6,000 coaches, managers and other team officials; 2,100 referees; and many other volunteers who make the game of hockey happen in the lower mainland.

The top female Midget teams from across Canada will take to the ice at the Bill Copeland Sports Centre in Burnaby for the fifth annual Esso Cup, Canada’s National Female Midget Championship, starting Sunday, April 21 and running through Saturday, April 27.

Host team the Fraser Valley Phantom will face off against five provincial and regional champions from Pacific, West, Ontario, Quebec and Atlantic in a battle for the 2013 Esso Cup gold medal. The six teams will compete in a five-day round robin, followed by semifinals and the bronze and gold medal games.

The gold medal game will air on TSN/RDS, the official broadcasters of Hockey Canada, at 6 p.m. PT on Saturday, April 27. Please check your local listings for broadcast times in your area. All preliminary round games, as well as the semifinals and bronze medal game, will be available for viewing online by FASTHockey at hockeycanada.fasthockey.com.

The event is being held in partnership by Hockey Canada, BC Hockey and the BC Hockey Female Midget AAA League.
