THEN: A point-per-game player at the 2008 IIHF World Under-18 Championship, Drozd rewrote the record book in his first of two World Junior A Challenge appearances. At the 2008 tournament in Camrose, Alta., the sniper single-handedly led Belarus to its best-ever finish, scoring a tournament-record seven goals, including five on the power play, also an all-time best. Drozd’s defining performance came in the quarter-finals against Germany, when he scored three times in 3:46 – all on the power play – to help the Belarusians to their first semifinal appearance. The offensive outburst set records for fastest hat trick, most goals in a period and most power play goals in a game and period. He also had two assists in the win, making him one of just five players to record five points in a single game. One year later, in Summerside, P.E.I., Drozd returned to captain Belarus and add four goals to his total, finishing with 11 in nine games, most in tournament history. His 14 points are good for second all-time behind Casey Pierro-Zabotel, who racked up 16 points for Canada West in 2006-07.

NOW: After returning from his record-setting performance in Camrose, Drozd represented his country once again at the 2009 IIHF World Junior Championship (Division I, Group A), winning a silver medal, and made his KHL debut with Dynamo Minsk. In large part due to his World Junior A Challenge performance, Drozd was selected by the Tri-City Americans with the 67th pick in the 2009 CHL Import Draft and spent the 2009-10 season in the Western Hockey League, his lone campaign in North America. He wore his country’s colours three times during the 2009-10 season, representing Belarus at a second World Juniors, winning another silver medal at the Division I, Group B tournament, and at the IIHF World Championship, in addition to the World Junior A Challenge in Summerside. Drozd is in his third season with Dynamo Minsk, and has played in the last two world championships, although he has yet to record a point in 13 games.
