HELSINKI, Finland – Canada has been eliminated in the quarter-finals at the 2012 IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship, losing 4-3 to Slovakia on Thursday in Helsinki.

Canada stormed back from a 2-0 first-period deficit to take a 3-2 lead in the second period on goals by Evander Kane (Vancouver, B.C./Winnipeg, NHL), Jeff Skinner (Markham, Ont./Carolina, NHL) and Alexandre Burrows (Pincourt, Que./Vancouver, NHL). Slovakia tied the game in the third period, and took the lead on a power play goal by Michal Handzus at 17:32 of the final frame. Canada stormed the net in the dying seconds, but couldn’t get the tying goal.

Both semifinals and the medal games will be broadcast on TSN and RDS, Hockey Canada’s official broadcasters. Check your local listings for details in your area.
