CALGARY, Alta. – Hockey Hall of Famer Jean Béliveau, honorary captain of Canada’s 2010 Men’s Olympic Team, will receive his Olympic ring from Hockey Canada president and CEO Bob Nicholson during an event in Montreal on December 14.

Béliveau was named honorary captain of Team Canada during the Hockey Canada Foundation gala and golf fundraiser in Montreal in June 2009. However, due to health reasons he was unable to travel to Vancouver for the 2010 Olympic Winter Games.

“Through more than 60 years of involvement in Canada’s game, Jean Béliveau has given so much to the sport of hockey, both on and off the ice,” said Nicholson. “He is an icon not only in Montreal, but across Canada, and I am honoured to be a part of the ceremony on December 14.”

The ring presentation will be part of a fundraising dinner at the Mount Stephen Club, with all proceeds from the evening going to Hockey Canada Foundation initiatives in support of grassroots hockey, as well as the Jean Béliveau Foundation in its support of the Quebec Society for Disabled Children.

Limited tables of nine seats are still available for this unique fundraiser, with a celebrity assigned to each table. Among others, celebrities to be in attendance include: Réjean Houle, Vincent Damphousse, Stéphane Richer, Serge Savard, Yvan Cournoyer, Guy Lafleur, Henri Richard, Stan Mikita and Dick Irvin.

“We are very excited about the greats that will be a part of the event,” said Chris Bright, manager of the Hockey Canada Foundation. “It was an honour to have Mr. Béliveau act as our honorary captain in Vancouver, and it will be an honour to be a part of the evening.”
