CALGARY, AB – After two exciting semi-finals on Friday, the gold medal game is set at the 2009 Esso Cup.

The Westman Wildcats (West) and Scarborough Sharks (Ontario) will battle to be the first national female midget champions on Saturday afternoon at the Max Bell Centre after coming out victorious in their respective semi-finals. The Wildcats topped the Edmonton Thunder (Pacific) 3-2 in the early semi-final, and the Sharks knocked off the Calgary Flyers (Host) 4-2 in the late game.

The Wildcats and Sharks will meet in the Esso Cup final, which will be shown live on TSN2 at 4 p.m. ET/2 p.m. MT, and will be replayed on the main TSN and RDS networks at 12:30 a.m. ET/10:30 p.m. MT.

The Wildcats won three of their five games in the round-robin. A 3-1 loss to the Sharks on Thursday put Westman in third place. The Wildcats hope to redeem themselves against the Sharks in Saturday’s gold medal match.

The Sharks have made a name for themselves at this year’s tournament, fighting back from two early losses in the round-robin to defeat the Northern Stars (Atlantic) 4-2 and the Westman Wildcats 3-1. The Sharks continued their winning streak by overpowering the favoured Calgary Flyers.

A battle of Alberta will start off the final day at the Esso Cup, with the Edmonton Thunder meeting the Flyers in the bronze medal game (noon ET/10 a.m. MT).
