CALGARY – Twenty-one coaches and assistant coaches involved in Hockey Canada's 2008-09 Program of Excellence will meet in Calgary, AB from June 12-15 for the annual Hockey Canada Coaches' Seminar, which this year will be held at the University of Calgary.

Hockey Canada has put on this seminar since 1998 to help coaches understand the many aspects it takes to have success at international hockey competitions. This seminar is by invitation only. Among those in attendance will be the coaches who were recently named to head Canada's regional under-17 teams for the 2009 World Under-17 Challenge in Port Alberni, BC and the regional Junior A teams for the 2008 World Junior A Challenge.

The weekend will include a number of workshops and presentations that cover a range of areas necessary to being successful behind the bench at the international level.

The list of presenters includes:

• Dr. Wayne Halliwell (sport psychologist)
• Corey Hirsch (Hockey Canada's goaltending consultant)
• Curtis Hunt (assistant coach, 2006 National Junior Team and 2007 Junior Team)

This year's seminar includes a keynote speech from Karl Alzner, a two-time gold medal winner at the IIHF World Junior Championship and captain of the 2008 National Junior Team. Alzner is no stranger to the Program of Excellence, also playing at the under-18 and under-17 levels.
