2008 IIHF World Championship Host Committees in Halifax and Quebec City
Hockey Canada, Hockey Nova Scotia and Hockey Quebec Announce Exhibition Game Schedule and Pre-Competition Details for 2008 IIHF World Championship
QUEBEC CITY, QC – The 2008 IIHF World Championship Host Committees in Halifax and Quebec City, along with Hockey Canada, Hockey Quebec and Hockey Nova Scotia announced details for ten exhibition games and ten pre-competition camps to be staged at various locations in Quebec and Nova Scotia in April 2008, prior to the opening the 2008 IIHF World Championship on May 2nd.
Exhibition games featuring ten teams will be featured in six difference communities in Quebec (Lachine, Quebec City, St-Hyacinthe, St-Léonard, Trois-Rivières) as well as in Port Hawkesbury, NS. Thirteen teams in total will also be conducting their pre-competition camps in Canada, including all three medal winning countries from the 2007 IIHF World Championship (Canada, Finland, Russia). Other countries hosting pre-competition camps in Canada are Belarus, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Italy, Latvia, Norway, Slovakia, Slovenia and Switzerland. Canada won gold in 2007 in Moscow, Russia, defeating Finland in the gold medal game.
Team Canada will be playing two exhibition games at the Colisée Pepsi in Quebec City, on April 26th vs. Finland and on April 28th vs. Russia. The IIHF World Championship gathers the top 16 hockey countries playing 56 exciting games leading to the
crowning of a World Champion and in May 2008, the 72nd IIHF World Championship will come to Canada for the
first time ever as it will be co-hosted by Halifax and Quebec City from May 2nd to May 18th.
Halifax will host Canada, USA, Finland, Slovakia, Germany, Latvia, Norway and Slovenia, while Quebec City
will host Sweden, Russia, Czech Republic, Switzerland, Belarus, Denmark, France and Italy.
