Hockey fans have one more option when it comes to getting a seat at a first-ever international event being held in Yorkton.

Ticket packages for the World Junior A Challenge will be available from the Yorkton Minor Hockey office in the Kinsmen Arena, as well as the World Junior A Challenge office at the Gallagher Centre.

The World Junior A Challenge is being held in Yorkton November 6 – 12 and will feature Canada West and Canada East all-star teams, as well as teams from Russia, Germany, Belarus and Slovakia.

A portion of the proceeds from each ticket package sold by Minor Hockey will go to the organization to support minor hockey in the area.

“This is a tremendous opportunity for the city of Yorkton and for our organization,” says Grant Ottenbreit. “It’s very exciting to have this caliber of hockey coming to our area and to have our young players involved. It’s a level of hockey they normally wouldn’t get to see. As well, it’s a great chance to showcase our kids as they’ll be participating in events and ceremonies associated with the Challenge.”

“The link between a successful minor hockey program and strong community-based junior programs is obvious,” says Dick DeRyk, co-chair of the World Junior A Challenge committee. “Having the minor hockey organization help sell ticket packages will assist us in ensuring the event is successful, while the money they raise will mean the continued development of quality hockey in the area.”

Advanced ticket packages are only $99 plus GST and include a ticket for each of the 8 games in Yorkton, including the medal round games. Anyone purchasing a package prior to October 18th will be entered into a draw to win one of three prizes from Hockey Canada. First prize is a leather jacket and bar fridge, second prize is a set of Nike golf clubs and third prize is the money back on your challenge ticket package as well as season tickets to your favorite junior A hockey team for the 2007-2008 season.

The Yorkton Minor Hockey Office is located in the Kinsmen Arena and is open from noon to 6 p.m. Monday to Friday. The phone number is 783-5070.
