Canada's Men's World Championship Team to Train in Calgary From April 13-17

CALGARY, AB – Hockey Canada announced that Canada’s 2005 Men’s World Championship hockey team will hold a training camp in Calgary from April 13-17, in preparation of the 2005 IIHF Men’s World Championship taking place in Austria at the end of April.

Steve Tambellini, Team Canada’s General Manager, will be announcing the players named to Canada’s roster on Monday, April 11th.  Details regarding the format of player announcement will be released prior to Monday.

Team Canada Head Coach Marc Habscheid, along with Assistant Coaches Tom Renney and Craig MacTavish will oversee Canada’s training camp and team preparations in Calgary at Father David Bauer Olympic Arena from April 13-17.

All of Team Canada’s practices are open to the public, subject to capacity restrictions.  Hockey fans wanting to view Team Canada’s practices are encouraged to bring new or used hockey equipment that will be collected at the entrance and will be distributed to less fortunate minor hockey players across the world.  Note: seating and parking at Father David Bauer Arena is limited, therefore, entry to practices will be on a first come, first served basis – subject to capacity restrictions.

TEAM CANADA TRAINING CAMP SCHEDULE (all times are MT)

Wednesday, April 13
2:00pm - Media availability with players/coaches - Father David Bauer Olympic Arena
4:00pm - Team Canada practice - Father David Bauer Olympic Arena

Thursday, April 14 to Sunday, April 17th
10:30 am - Team Canada practice each day - Father David Bauer Olympic Arena

Monday, April 18th – travel day to Halifax for Team Canada’s players and staff (no practice)

Please note: players named to Team Canada’s roster on Monday may not be in attendance at the camp in Calgary, depending upon the player’s travel schedule and if they are still playing or recently completed their season in Europe.

Media availability for players and staff will be after practices each day, and will take place at Father David Bauer Olympic Arena.  Phone interviews with players and staff will be limited due to the number of on-site media expected.

MEDIA ACCREDITATION:  working media interested in attending Team Canada’s training camp in Calgary should bring proof of identification and check in at the main entrance ‘media desk’ of Father David Bauer Arena. Parking is limited at Father David Bauer Arena.

Canada will play its first game of the 2005 Men’s IIHF World Championship against Latvia on Saturday April 30th, 2005.  All of Canada’s games will be broadcast LIVE on TSN/RDS, the official broadcaster of Hockey Canada, and the FAN radio network.
