Johnny Misley Named Cha's Vice-President, Hockey Operations

CALGARY, AB - Johnny Misley has been named the Canadian Hockey Association's Vice-President, Hockey Operations, President Bob Nicholson announced on Thursday.

Since 1998, the position of "CHA Vice-President, Hockey position" (Tom Renney 1998-2000, Wayne Fleming 2000-2002) has included the position of Head Coach of Canada's National Men's Team. The Vice-President, Hockey Operations position, that Misley has being named for, will not have a coaching component or capacity for any of Canada's National Teams.

Misley's new position will focus on providing leadership and direction for the High Performance, Hockey Development and Communications programs, along with working closely with the CHA's member branches and volunteers to ensure the continued growth of hockey in Canada at all levels.

"We are extremely excited to be naming Johnny as the Canadian Hockey Association's new Vice-president, Hockey Operations," said Bob Nicholson, President, CHA. "Johnny has a great knowledge of all of our programs and CHA branches and will assist in enhancing hockey in Canada, to have an even greater impact on grassroots hockey and on Canada's National teams."

Misley, 40, joined the CHA's head office in 1998, as the Director of Development overseeing all hockey development programming in Canada. Prior to joining the CHA, he served as the British Columbia Amateur Hockey Association's Project Coordinator, leading both development and high performance programs in B.C. He is a NCCP Advanced 2 (Level IV) certified coach and a NCCP Course Conductor.

This past season, Misley served as team leader with Canada's Men's Olympic Hockey Team which won the gold medal at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, USA.

The native of Port Alberni, BC holds a Bachelors Degree in Physical Education (Coaching Sciences) and a Masters Degree in Human Kinetics (Sports Management) from the University of British Columbia and is a graduate of the National Coaching Institute in Victoria, BC.

"I am looking forward to taking on a number of new challenges with the Vice-President, Hockey Operations position," said Misley. "I look forward to working with the various hockey departments of the CHA, as well as with our member branches and the many volunteers across the country, in assisting the game of hockey to continue to grow in Canada."

MIsley will officially begin his duties on , working out of the CHA's Calgary office. Misley and his wife Teri reside in Calgary, AB with their two sons, Brayden and Bryce.
