Defenceman Steve McCarthy Added to National Junior Team Selection Camp Roster

NORTH YORK, ONTARIO - Defenceman Steve McCarthy, of Trail, BC, has been loaned to Canada's National Junior Team by the Chicago Blackhawks, the Canadian Hockey Association and the Canadian Hockey League announced on Tuesday.

McCarthy won a bronze medal as a member of Canada's National Junior Team at the 2000 World Junior Hockey Championship in Sweden.

McCarthy, a first round pick of the Chicago Black Hawks, 23rd overall, in the 1999 NHL Entry Draft, made his NHL debut appearing in five games at the start of the 1999-2000 NHL season with the Blackhawks recording one goal and one assist. He has played 17 games this season with Chicago, registering no points.

The National Junior Team's Selection Camp Roster now stands at 34 players, including 4 goaltenders, 12 defencemen and 18 forwards.

Canada's National Junior Team's Selection Camp will run from December 13-18, 2000 at the Beatrice Ice Gardens on the York University campus in Toronto, ON.

The team will be holding daily practices, two intersquad games on December 14th and 15th as well as two exhibition games, on December 16th and 17th, against All-Star Teams made up Ontario University players. All practices are open to the public free of charge.
