Game Story

ALBERTA GETS ITS FIRST WIN, BLANKING ATLANTIC 3-0

Kassy Betinol (Okotoks, Alta./Okanagan Hockey Academy, CSSHL) broke Alberta’s scoreless streak 33 seconds into the second period of the team’s final preliminary-round game on a cross-crease pass from Stephanie Markowski (Edmonton/Pursuit of Excellence, CSSHL). The goal went unanswered, securing the team’s first win at the 2017 National Women’s Under-18 Championship.

With semifinal spots still on the line, wins and goals-for remain key for the eight participating teams. Breanne Trotter (Okotoks, Alta./Rocky Mountain, AFHL) and Courtney Kollman (Calgary/Edge School, CSSHL) each found the back of the net in the third period, improving the team’s goal differential.

Erin Fargey (Langdon, Alta./Northern Alberta, CSSHL) made 25 saves to earn the shutout, while Team Atlantic goaltender Maddie Beck (Miramichi, N.B./Rothesay Netherwood School, CAHS) stopped 31 of the 34 shots she faced.
