Game Story

The fans were loud and Quebec gave them plenty to cheer about to close out Day 1 at the 2017 National Women’s Under-18 Championship in Quebec City.

The host team took advantage of a power play to score off the face-off at 16:57 in the second period. Chloé Gendreau (Sherbrooke Que./Triolet, QCMAA) beat Manitoba’s Halle Oswald (Sanford, Man./Pembina Valley, MFMHL), but the celebration was short-lived as Olivia Cvar (Gimli, Man./Balmoral Hall, JWHL) picked up a loose puck at centre ice and skated in to tie the game 39 seconds later.

Audrey-Anne Veillette (Drummondville, Que./Stanstead College, CAHS) beat Oswald at 6:53 in the third frame with a back-handed shot on the short side, and teammate Zoé Thibault (Sherbrooke, Que./Triolet, QCMAA) potted the insurance goal just past the midway mark in the third. Manitoba’s Oswald stopped 26 of 29 shots in the game.
