2011 World Sport School Challenge

Okanagan Hockey Academy 0 - Edge School for Athletes 2

CALGARY, Alta. – Kyle Baumgardner stopped all 12 shots he faced and John Gosbee and Cam Amantea scored goals as the Edge School advanced to the semifinals at the 2011 World Sport School Challenge with a 2-0 victory over Okanagan Hockey Academy on Thursday afternoon.

The wins sets up a Friday semifinal between the Mountaineers and undefeated Finland (5 p.m. MT).

The last team to record a win during the preliminary round, the Edge School came out with momentum against OHA, outshooting the Penticton, B.C., school 10-2 in the first period and taking a 1-0 lead when Gosbee finished off a three-on-one at the 17-minute mark.

Okanagan Hockey Academy got its offence going in the second period, quadrupling its shot total – it had eight in the frame – but Baumgardner continued to bar the door, highlighted by arguably the save of the tournament, a stretching glove stop midway through the period.

The Edge School doubled its lead just 18 seconds into the third period off the stick of Amantea, and poured on the pressure in the final 20 minutes, outshooting OHA 16-2 in the period and 34-12 overall.

The loss means Okanagan Hockey Academy will play in Friday’s fifth-place game (1:30 p.m MT) against the loser of Thursday’s late semifinal between Shattuck-St. Mary’s and Pursuit of Excellence.
