2004 National U18 Club Championship

ATLANTIC 2 - PACIFIC 3

April 23, 2004
Kenora, ON

This game was a must win for Cornwall, whereas Red Deer had already clinched second spot in the standings, and it showed. The Thunder came out of the gate hard, and played as if it was in a do-or-die situation. The boys from PEI took a 1-0 leading into the second, and doubled their lead to 2-0 on a power-play marker mid way through the second. Red Deer peppered the Cornwall goalie, Todd Gregory with 17 shots in the second, but could not beat the red-hot tender. Red Deer final solved the Cornwall goalie with just over four minutes remaining in the game to bring it to within one. Cornwall took a five minute major with a minute remaining, and with Red Deer’s goalie pulled for the extra attacker, they scored the equalizer with 0:50 left on the clock. The game was tied at 2-2, and Red Deer still had a four minute power-play in the extra frame. Cornwall was successful in killing that off, but took another penalty half way through the overtime. Red Deer was able to score the winner, and complete the miraculous compete for the 3-2 victory. Red Deer finishes with a 4-1 record, and earns a date in the semi-final on Saturday. Cornwall finishes with a 1-4 record, which places them in a tie for fifth spot with Toronto.
