Host Team

The host team for this year's Air Canada Midget Triple A Cup, the Miramichi Town Ford Rivermen, has an impressive history. Since the club first surfaced as the Miramichi Beavers of the New Brunswick Midget Triple A Hockey League back in 1984-1985 they've won five provincial titles and represented Atlantic Canada at the Air Canada Cup in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia back in 1992.

The coaching duo of Shawn Wood and David Hale are in their sixth year behind the bench with the team and have helped the Rivermen to a pair of provincial championships so far.

The 1997-1998 season saw territorial changes that saw the Miramichi and Chaleur (Bathurst) areas combined to form one team for the region. Based in Miramichi, about a 45-minute drive south of Bathurst, the team enjoyed their best season last year. The Rivermen jumped from a third place finish in league play to their fifth provincial title and narrowly missed representing Atlantic Canada at the Air Canada Cup in Prince George, BC.

With several players from the Bathurst area the team really is a regional one this year and also includes a former member of the cities Quebec Major Junior Hockey League team the Acadie-Bathurst Titan. Petit-Rocher native Remi Doucet, who was a 5th round draft choice by the Titan in 2000, has been atop the New Brunswick Midget Triple A Hockey League scoring race for a good part of the season.
