Team Summary

2000-2001 SEASON

  • The season started with a 3-1 record in an exhibition tournament in Grande Prairie
  • Won a silver medal at the Kamloops tournament, losing to the Red Deer Optimist Chiefs in the final
  • They traveled to Prince Albert and went 1-3 in a tough pool and got their feet wet playing the top teams in the prairies
  • Later in the month the team went undefeated in their tournament with a 4-0-1 record.
  • At Christmas time the Cougars went to the prestigious Mac's Tournament in Calgary where they went 2-1-1 and finished just out of the playoff round. Both Keenan Hopson and Rocky Mix were selected to play in the all-star game.
  • In January the team traveled to Kelowna for a twelve-team tournament where they went 6-0 before losing to the Notre Dame Hounds in the final at SkyReach Place. Brett Fillion and Braden Chamberlain both made the divisional all-star team.
  • The Cariboo League playoffs took place in February with the Cougars defeating the Williams Lake team two games to none. Thus advancing to the Provincial Playoffs, which took place in Williams Lake. They went 4-0-1 including a 13-0 Gold Medal Game to win the provincial championship.
  • They traveled to Alberta for the Pacific Regionals and went 3-0 including a 7-5 win over the Calgary Royals to win the Pacific Regional Championship.
  • The Coast Inn of the North Midget Major Cougars overall record this year is 49-8-5.
  • The team has a balanced attack of scorers with nine guys that have 20 or more goals this season.
