POSITION SUMMARY 

Reporting to the Executive Director of the 2021 World Junior Championship, the Manager of Operations will be a vital member of the team as we prepare to host the event. Tasked with multiple responsibilities such as support in key areas; venue operations, operations volunteer management, media, fan experience, and administrative tasks. This role requires exceptional organizational skills, and the need for a high level of attention to detail. We are looking for someone that becomes a member of an already highly functioning team and can work remotely to execute key tasks. Working on a number of different priorities at once will be required.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Serve as the lead for all venue operations elements for the Edmonton and Red Deer arena facilities
  • Manage and support the Operations Coordinator staff member
  • Lead all team services elements for both Edmonton and Red Deer
  • Manage event information technology requirements for both Edmonton and Red Deer
  • Manage event Off-Ice Officials & statistic planning for the overall event
  • Work in conjunction with Hockey Canada on all merchandise planning for the championship
  • Manage event medical & doping requirements for both Edmonton and Red Deer
  • Manage all event hospitality and VIP experiences for both Edmonton and Red Deer
  • Manage event 50/50 operations in conjunction with Hockey Canada for both Edmonton & Red Deer
  • Manage all broadcast requirements for both Edmonton and Red Deer
  • Oversee the daily operations of assigned Host Organizing Committee including but not limited to; meetings, plan of action, budgeting, recruitment of volunteers, training & execution of event plan
  • Provide specific reports and updates to the Executive Director, 2021 World Junior Championship
  • Work with the Executive Director to build frame work of goals and expectations for the Championship
  • Manage event budget and finance in key assigned areas
  • Prepare a final report in all areas of responsibility as well as oversee the final report tracking and submission
  • Deliver a first class event and ensure all stakeholders have the best experience
  • Daily contribution to different tasks assigned by the Executive Director and support to other staff members
  • Maintain up to date plan of actions and follow-ups
  • Enhances department and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Degree or Diploma in Sports Administration or Event Management is an asset
  • Knowledge and experience of international events and championships
  • Project Management skills are recommended
  • Experience working with Volunteers or in Volunteer Management is essential
  • Strong knowledge of budget preparation and expense management
  • Ability to work in a team environment and leader for Volunteer Committees
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; promotes cooperation and commitment within a team to achieve goals and objectives
  • Proficient communication skills, excellent writing and editing skills; ability to use a broad range of communication techniques to effectively communicate to varying audiences in a variety of situations
  • Exceptional organizational and time management skills; ability to balance conflicting priorities in order to manage workflow, ensure the completion of essential projects and meet deadlines
  • High level of integrity; earns others’ trust and respect through consistent honesty and professionalism in all interactions
  • Demonstrated high level of proficiency in Microsoft Programs, Outlook and ability to quickly adapt to new technology and easily acquire new technical skills
  • Level of passion, drive and ambition as well as standards of quality, commitment and expertise which are consistent with Hockey Canada’s culture
  • Ability to work staggered hours, evenings and weekends as necessary
