Canada's National Men's Under-18 Team advances to quarter-finals at 2013 IIHF Ice Hockey U18 World Championship

SOCHI, Russia – Canada’s National Men’s Under-18 Team has earned a place in the quarter-finals at the 2013 IIHF Ice Hockey World U18 Championship after finishing first in Group B during preliminary round play with a perfect 4-0 record.

Canada will play its quarter-final against the Czech Republic in Sochi on Thursday at noon ET/9 a.m. PT, a game which can be seen live on TSN and RDS, Hockey Canada’s official broadcasters. Check your local listings for broadcast times in your area.

Canada blanked Sweden 6-0 on Tuesday to clinch first. It also recorded victories over Slovakia (4-1), Germany (3-1) and Switzerland (10-1) during the round robin portion of the tournament.

Connor McDavid (Newmarket, Ont./Erie, OHL) finished as Canada’s top scorer in the preliminary round, recording 11 points (five goals, six assists) in four games, including a hat trick and an assist in Tuesday’s win over Sweden.

Canada is attempting to win its third gold medal at the IIHF Ice Hockey World U18 Championship, having previously taken home the top prize in 2003 in Yaroslavl, Russia, and 2008 in Kazan, Russia.

TSN/RDS, the official broadcasters of Hockey Canada, will broadcast Canada’s quarter-final game on Thursday, April 25, a semifinal on Friday, April 26 and both medal games on Sunday, April 28. Check your local listings for game times in your area.
