TOP REGULAR SEASON TEAM – WINNIPEG WILD
An overtime goal from its first trip to the TELUS Cup last spring, the Winnipeg Wild bounced back in a big way in 2016-17, claiming the regular-season title in the MMAAAHL. The Wild started the season with 13 wins in its first 15 games, and won 16 of 18 after the calendar turned to 2017, distancing itself from second-place Yellowhead. Winnipeg was far and away the No. 1 scoring team, racking up 229 goals, 32 more than anybody else. Cedric Chenier (30-35—65) was the offensive catalyst, earning points in 33 of 43 games to win the MMAAAHL scoring title. Between the pipes, Niklas Anderson backstopped Winnipeg’s league-leading defence (80 goals against in 44 games), leading the MMAAAHL in wins (22), goals-against average (1.29), save percentage (.945) and shutouts (seven).
