EDMONTON, Alta. – Bob Nicholson, president and CEO of Hockey Canada, announced today that Canada’s National Junior Team summer development camp will be held in Edmonton at Rexall Place, August 3-6, 2011.

“The National Junior Team summer development camp is one of the centrepieces of our preparations for the IIHF World Junior Championship, and we’re extremely pleased that Edmonton will play host this August,” said Nicholson. “Fans in the Alberta capital are in for a treat when Canada’s best juniors hit the ice.”

The summer development camp brings more than 40 hockey players together for the shaping of Canada’s 2012 National Junior Team.

Nicholson also announced that the Red and White game, a traditional exhibition game between two squads of Canada’s best junior players, will take place on Saturday, August 6 at Rexall Place.  The Red and White game represents the culmination of the National Junior Team summer development camp.

The announcement of the National Junior Team summer development camp was one of many key announcements with respect to the 2012 IIHF World Junior Championship being hosted in Calgary and Edmonton, to .

Richard L. Andersen, Northlands President and CEO, officially welcomed the 2012 IIHF World Junior Championship games to Northlands and to the committee’s new offices at the Edmonton EXPO Centre.

“We are thrilled the games will be here in Edmonton and equally thrilled to be the host venue for this prestigious international event,” says Andersen. For close to a century, Northlands has remained a strong supporter and partner of hockey in Edmonton and throughout Alberta. From the early days of the Oil Kings and Edmonton Flyers gracing the ice at the Edmonton Gardens through to the Oilers remarkable Stanley Cup dynasty at the Coliseum and the Oil Kings resurgence at Rexall Place, we are very proud to be a part of our city’s hockey history.”

Also announced today was the opening of the volunteer application process.

The magnitude of the 2012 IIHF World Junior Championship being held between the cities of Calgary and Edmonton requires the entire Wild Rose community, or ‘Alberta United’ to embrace the spirit of the event and volunteers are paramount to that success.

‘We Are Ready, All We Need is You!’

The 2012 IIHF World Junior Championship will require 1,000 volunteers in Calgary and Edmonton.  Areas that volunteers can sign-up for include transportation, hospitality, media, marketing and promotions.
