Canada's National Sledge Team to Face United States in Semi-Final Action at 2009 IPC Sledge Hockey World Championship

CALGARY, Alta. – Canada’s National Sledge Team is two steps away from defending its gold medal at the 2009 IPC Sledge Hockey World Championship.

Canada defeated Japan 7-0 on Tuesday to conclude preliminary-round play at 3-0. Canada now will face the United States in semi-final action on Thursday at 4 p.m. ET. The game can be seen live via webcast at www.paralympicsport.tv, the IPC’s Internet TV channel. All games from the 2009 IPC Sledge Hockey World Championship will be shown on that Internet TV channel.

Thursday’s other semi-final will feature Norway and Japan. The two semi-final winners will meet for the gold medal on Saturday at 1 p.m. ET.

On Tuesday, Bradley Bowden (Orton, Ont.) and Adam Dixon (Midland, Ont.) each scored twice to lead Canada to the win. Billy Bridges (Summerside, P.E.I.), Marc Dorion (Bourget, Ont.) and Greg Westlake (Oakville, Ont.) added singles and Paul Rosen (Thornhill, Ont.) earned the shutout. Bowden was named Canada’s player of the game.

Canada won the 2008 IPC Sledge Hockey World Championship and is also the defending Payalympic Winter Games champion.
