Exhibition Game Confirmed for Kamloops Dec. 22 Team Canada vs. Russia

KAMLOOPS, BC - Hockey Canada President Bob Nicholson today confirmed the details of the exhibition game scheduled for December 22nd in Kamloops in preparation for the 2006 World Junior Hockey Championship - Team Canada will meet Russia at Sport Mart Place in Kamloops at 7:00 PM.

“Upon announcing in April that Kamloops would host an exhibition game prior the tournament itself, we knew that the city would be excited.  Today we’re pleased to know that the local organizing committee is working diligently to ensure the event is a success, and rest assured that the City of Kamloops will provide a warm-welcome to the best young hockey players from both Team Canada and Russia for this game,” said Bob Nicholson, President Hockey Canada.

“We’re thrilled to host this exhibition game between Team Canada and Russia.  This game will provide those hockey fans in Kamloops who have tickets for the tournament itself to get an advance glimpse of the excitement that will take British Columbia and Canada by storm this December,” said Bud Smith, Co-Chair of the Kamloops Organizing Committee.

There are just over 1000 ticket packages remaining for the five tournament games and the Team Canada exhibition game on December 22. Ticket packages are $145 plus applicable ticketing charges for all six games. The five preliminary round games are scheduled to be held in Kamloops from December 26th through 31st, 2005.

The 2006 IIHF World Junior Championship in Kamloops, Kelowna and Vancouver will mark the seventh time that this international event has been staged in Canada and the first time it will be held in British Columbia. Other years in which Canada hosted this Championship were in 2003 (Halifax, NS), 1999 (Winnipeg, MB), 1995 (Red Deer, AB), 1991 (Saskatoon, SK), 1986 (Hamilton, ON), and 1978 (Montreal, QC). Grand Forks, North Dakota hosted the event in 2005.
