TORONTO, ON – After going 3-0 in the round robin, Team Canada finished first in the North American Pool and will face off against the Slovakians, finishing fourth, in the quarter finals at the Air Canada Centre in Toronto on Wednesday, September 8.

These two teams met in the round robin portion of the tournament in Montreal on September 1. Canada won the game 5-1 with Ryan Smyth leading the charge netting two goals.

Canadian forward Jarome Iginla has been in this do-or-die situation before. “The pressure gets turned up a little at this point,” says the power forward. “We have to win the next three games in order to win the tournament, and there is very little room for mistakes when you play teams of this calibre.

”Team Canada will continue to prepare for the quarter finals by holding daily practices at the Air Canada Centre. The other quarter final in the North American Pool will see the Russians go to battle versus the USA on Tuesday, September 7th.
