Hi! I'm Champ the Otter and I'm the official Mascot of the 2003 World Junior Hockey Championship; welcome to my web page. The first thing you might want to know is why the heck did they choose me, an otter, to be the mascot?!?! Well, I was chosen for some very special reasons! First of all, I'm not just any old otter, I'm a Sea Otter; an animal that is native to Nova Scotia. In the winter, when the harbours and bays get a little ice on the surface, you will find my Sea Otter friends and me slipping and sliding across the ice. We like to take running dives onto the ice and slide on our bellies to the edge of the ice and dive into the water! When I'm wet, my fur gets very dark, almost black…and when I'm playing on the ice, I look kind of like a giant hockey puck while it is in play! I just reminded them of hockey all around.

The best part is, I love hockey! During World Juniors, I will be working hard to get fans to "Join the Rush". You'll see me on a regular basis at both the Halifax Metro Centre and Centre 200 during the tournament and many community events including the Hockey lover's dream: Fan Fest!

See you at the World Juniors!
