CALGARY, AB - Assistant Executive Director Lanny McDonald and Head Coach Wayne Fleming announced three players have been added to Canada's Men's World Championship roster for the IIHF tournament taking place in Germany, April 28-May 13, 2001.

Two goaltenders, Fred Brathwaite of the Calgary Flames and Roberto Luongo of the Florida Panthers, along with forward Scott Walker from the Nashville Predators will represent Canada at this year's Men's
Worlds.

All three players have previous International experience:
* Brathwaite has participated in the Men's Worlds twice (1999, 2000) and was member of Canada's Men's National team in 1998-99

* Luongo played in the 1998 World Juniors and won a silver medal with Canada's National Junior team in 1999, where he was named top goalie

* Walker was a member of Canada's Men's Worlds team in 1999, and played 2 games for Canada's National Men's team in 1992-93

These additions bring Canada's roster to nine players (2 goaltenders, 1 defenseman and 6 forwards). Executive Director Wayne Gretzky, along with McDonald and Head Coach Fleming will continue to monitor the NHL playoff situation, and plan to name additional players to the roster throughout the next two weeks.

Canada won two gold medals in the 1990's at the World Hockey Championship - 1994 and again in 1997. Canada finished fourth last year at Men's World Hockey Championship in St.Petersburg, Russia, and fourth in 1999 in Norway, losing in a shootout to the eventual World Champions from the Czech Republic during the semi-final.

Canada's first game at the 2001 IIHF World Hockey Championship will take place in Hanover, Germany on April 28 versus Norway. This year's World Championship in Germany will be played in three locations: Hanover, Cologne and Nurnberg, with Canada based in Hanover.
