Five Canadian Regional Team Rosters Confirmed for 2001 World Under 17 Hockey Challenge in New Glasgow and Truro, Nova Scotia

CALGARY, AB - The five Canadian Regional Team rosters have been confirmed for the 2001 World Under 17 Hockey Challenge that will run - in New Glasgow and Truro, Nova Scotia, the Canadian Hockey Association announced on Tuesday.

Canada will send five teams to the World Under 17 Hockey Challenge: Team Pacific (British Columbia, Alberta), Team Western (Manitoba, Saskatchewan), Team Ontario, Team Québec and Team Atlantic (Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland).

Each teams' Director of Operations will serve as Media Contact for their respective teams;

  • Team Pacific: Scott Salmond (250-652-2978 ext 225);

  • Team Ontario: Mike Schutte (905-335-1504);

  • Team Québec: Alain Sanscartier (514-252-3079);

Five international teams will also take part in this tournament: Team Czech Republic, Team Finland, Team Germany, Team Russia, and Team USA.

The World Hockey Challenge has been bringing high level international hockey to fans across Canada since 1986. Based originally in Quebec, the Quebec Esso Cup was considered the unofficial World Championship of Midget Hockey. The event was renamed the World Under 17 Hockey Challenge in 1992 when it was held in Sudbury, ON.
