LOUIS’ HAT TRICK LEADS AMERICANS TO WIN OVER WEST

TECUMSEH, Ont. – Anthony Louis scored a hat trick, with all three goals coming on the power play, to help the United States to a 7-3 victory over West on Sunday night at the 2012 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge.

The U.S. bounced back from its first preliminary loss in four years – a 3-2 defeat at the hands of Russia on Friday – to drop West to 0-3 for the first time since 2004 in St. John’s, N.L., when it went winless in the preliminary round and finished ninth.

Connor Chatham, J.T. Compher, Luke Voltin and Hudson Fasching also scored for the Americans, who kept their semifinal hopes alive with the win. Compher finished with a goal and three assists, while Chatham, Voltin and Fasching had a goal and a helper. Will Butcher added three assists in the win.

Remi Laurencelle (Winnipeg, Man./Winnipeg, MMAAAHL), Kayle Doetzel (Rosetown, Sask./Red Deer, WHL) and Cory Millette (Storthoaks, Sask./Red Deer, WHL) had the goals for West, which was outshot 45-17. Austin Lotz (St. Adolphe, Man./Everett, WHL) was solid between the pipes despite the loss, making 38 saves.

The Americans will play for their semifinal lives against Pacific on Monday night in Tecumseh (7 p.m. ET) in what amounts to a first-place showdown, while West will look to play spoiler against the Russians in LaSalle (7 p.m. ET).
